Recensione del DVD di Eli Knight "The Bladed Grappler" - Eli Knight's DVD The Bladed Grappler review

There is a big misunderstanding around Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, that it is just a sport and not a  self defense system, and even less than it can offer effective solutions against someone armed with an edged weapon.

"On the ground, BJJ guys can kick your ass but if you tell me that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can help you against a knife ... forget about it... Brazilian Jiu Jitsu do not work with the knife." This is what I heard from an instructor from another martial art.

To convince themselves that Bjj is a martial art voted to self defense, these people should read the crime in the newspapers, there are countless cases of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners who have defended themselves or other people, even against armed aggressors.

In this North American newspaper title, a boy says that Jiu-Jitsu save his life against an aggressor armed with a scissors.

In this England newspaper title, we can read about another Jiu Jitsu guy that saved a mother and her son from a man armed with a knife.

If we are considering BJJ just like a sport we may think BJJ is ineffective against an armed attack, and that to address such threats we must turn elsewhere.

It is a fact that dealing with an aggressor armed with a knife is a very serious business, but if some jiu jitsu practitioners have managed to defend themselves in similary situations, with basic jiu jitsu knowledge, learning some techniques specifically studied for these situations can  greatly increase the chances to survive.

If you want to deepen the knife defense, I recommend  the Bladed Grappler by Eli Knight, Royce Gracie black belt, produced by Funker Tactical and focused on knife defense on the ground.

I recomende this dvd not only to those who practising Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but also to the Krav Maga or kali  practitioners, and other self defense systems practitioners who will find in this work interesting ideas to think about.

Obviously, for those who are stranger to Jiu Jitsu, I recomend to learn the basics of this martial art before learning how to face an armed aggressor on the ground.

About the ground fighting with the knife there is not much material out there, this work introduces some ideas into a vast and complex, but still, unexplored study area.

The presence of the knife, in a ground fighting, requires some technical and tactical different approaches compared to a sports scenario, but the basic BJJ concepts remain the same and the proposed solutions are easy to assimilate for those who already practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

This work - as Eli Knight says - is aimed to open-minded people and for people that want to expand their self defense knowledge through jiu jitsu.

This dvd lasts just over an hour and the positions covered are: the mount, the side control, the knee on the stomach, the guard and the back mount for a total of 13 techniques.
